Surgical treatment of hiatal hernias is indicated when they are symptomatic or large to prevent acute complications. Surgery consists of hernia reduction, resection of the sac, and closure of the diaphragmatic crura, usually combined with an antireflux device. El tratamiento quirúrgico de la hernia hiatal está indicado cuando son sintomáticas o de gran tamaño para evitar complicaciones agudas. La cirugía consiste en la reducción herniaria, resección del saco y cierre de los pilares del diafragma, asociando habitualmente un mecanismo antirreflujo. O tratamento cirúrgico das hérnias de hiato é indicado quando elas são sintomáticas ou extensas, para prevenir complicações agudas.
