Sumario: | Abstract. Democratic societies guarantee equal school opportunities for all its members, who should be distributed at random in degree courses and occupational courses. This comes true in theeducation system in general, except in technical and technological areas, where a low female attendance is surprising. We will try to explain the causes for this moving away, which can involve invisible mechanisms that lead women to other education destinations. We will study a sector of technological education, in the former Universidad del Trabajo del Uruguay [Uruguayan Labor University], analyzing whether school, as well as other socializing institutions, act as a reproducer of inequalities and which are the elements that have influence in such a reproduction. From a qualitative point of view, we reach results that are useful in the elaboration of mechanisms meant to eradicate reproductive processes of differentiations detrimental to a social sector and the result of which is the prejudice of the whole society. |
