Introducción: la investigación científica dentro de un hospital universitario forma parte de sus pilares. La evaluación de la producción científica de una institución académica puede generar datos de importancia útiles para la toma de decisiones sobre políticas de investigación, permitiendo su desarrollo y el mejor uso de recursos humanos, financieros y materiales. Objetivo: generar información relacionada a las actividades de investigación científica en el Hospital de Clínicas como insumo para la toma de decisiones en el área. Metodología: se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo de corte transversal, enmarcado entre los años 2016 y 2020. Se incluyeron artículos científicos del “Hospital de Clínicas, Uruguay” obtenidos de la base de datos de PubMed, información sobre número de docentes y de docentes en régimen de dedicación total del Hospital de Clínicas y de la Facultad de Medicina, UdelaR, encuestas realizadas a servicios del Hospital de Clínicas referentes a la dedicación a la investigación científica e información por parte de las agencias financiadoras ANII y CSIC. Resultados: en el período considerado se encontraron 309 publicaciones del Hospital de Clínicas y 458 de la Facultad de Medicina; contando cada institución con 638 y 329 docentes, respectivamente. Las principales colaboraciones con el exterior de los grupos del Hospital de Clínicas fueron con Estados Unidos (74 colaboraciones), Argentina (63) y España (62). Se enviaron encuestas a 49 correos electrónicos obtenidos de la página web oficial de la institución, las cuales no recibieron respuesta. Conclusión: se observa un incremento del número de publicaciones realizadas por el Hospital de Clínicas, Uruguay, a lo largo del periodo 2016-2020. Asimismo, se refleja que la comunidad científica del mismo tiene un importante número de colaboraciones con la comunidad académica internacional. Se plantea que el Hospital de Clínicas no cuenta con un sistema de comunicación interno oficial efectivo.

Introduction: scientific research within a university hospital is one of its pillars. The evaluation of scientific production of an academic institution can generate important data useful for decision making on research policies, allowing its development and the best use of human, financial and material resources. Objective: to generate information related to scientific research activities at the Hospital de Clínicas as input for decision-making in the area. Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive observational study was conducted, framed between 2016 and 2020. Scientific articles were included from the ‘Hospital de Clínicas, Uruguay’ obtained from the database Pubmed, information on the number of teaching and full-time regime staff at the ‘Hospital de Clínicas’ and ‘Facultad de Medicina, UdelaR’, surveys carried out on the services of the ‘Hospital de Clínicas’ regarding to the dedication to scientific research and information from the funding agencies ANII and CSIC. Results: within the considered period, in the ‘Hospital de Clínicas’ with 309 publications and the Faculty of Medicine 458 publications, having each institution 638 and 329 teachers respectively. The collaborations of the ‘Hospital de Clínicas’ highlights the United States (74 collaborations), followed by Argentina (63), Spain (62), and others. Surveys were sent to 49 emails obtained from the official website of the institution, which did not receive a response. Conclusion: there is an increase in the number of publications made by the ‘Hospital de Clínicas’, Uruguay, which is observed over the period 2016-2020. Likewise, it is reflected that its scientific community has a significant number of collaborations with the international academic community. It is stated that the ‘Hospital de Clínicas’ does not have an effective official internal communication system.
