La presente tesis constituye un estudio etnográfico sobre experiencias vitales y socioeducativas de un grupo de personas sordas, estudiantes en una institución educativa formal pública dirigida a personas sordas y oyentes. Se sustenta en un trabajo de campo desarrollado entre los meses de agosto y diciembre del año 2023, en un centro educativo para jóvenes y adultos sordos ubicado en la ciudad de Montevideo (Uruguay). Se focalizó en trabajar en torno a dos talleres: Comunicación y Diseño. El primero dirigido exclusivamente a personas sordas, el segundo a personas sordas y oyentes. Tomando como eje central al colectivo de estudiantes sordos/as se propone indagar en algunas dimensiones de sus experiencias vitales y socioeducativas en su relación con el mundo oyente, y los significados que a estas atribuyen. Esta tesis busca realizar un aporte a los estudios antropológicos y a los estudios sordos del ámbito nacional, tratándose del primer estudio etnográfico realizado en español y lengua de señas uruguaya (LSU). Más precisamente contribuir desde el campo de la antropología al de los estudios sordos.

This thesis is an ethnographic study of the life and socio-educational experiences of a group of deaf people, students in a public formal educational institution aimed at deaf and hearing people.It is based on fieldwork carried out between August and December 2023, at an educational center for deaf youth and adults located in the city of Montevideo (Uruguay). It focused on working around two workshops: Communication and Design. The first one was aimed exclusively at deaf people, the second at deaf and hearing people. Taking the group of deaf students as a central axis, it is proposed to investigate some dimensions of their life and socio-educational experiences in their relationship with the hearing world, and the meanings they attribute to these. This thesis seeks to make a contribution to anthropological studies and deaf studies at a national level, being the first ethnographic study carried out in Spanish and Uruguayan Sign Language (LSU). More precisely, to contribute from the field of anthropology to that of deaf studies.
