Asimetrías del Pass through: el caso uruguayo 2000-2023

Este documento presenta un análisis del traspaso del tipo de cambio sobre los precios en Uruguay utilizando datos mensuales para el período 2000-2023 incorporando variables endógenas como el IPC, tipo de cambio nominal, IVF de la industria y precios internacionales de commodities alimenticios. Luego estudia la posible asimetría y no linealidad del traspaso. Para determinar la magnitud se implementan modelos econométricos de vectores autorregresivos. La presencia de asimetrías es examinada a través de Proyecciones Locales (PL), siguiendo la metodología de Jordà (2005). Se concluye que los efectos de traspaso sobre la inflación son significativos y no unitarios. A su vez se observa que el traslado es positivo en una depreciación y no significativo cuando el tipo de cambio se aprecia.
This document presents an analysis of the exchange rate pass through on prices in Uruguay using monthly data for the period 2000-2023, incorporating endogenous variables such as the CPI, nominal exchange rate, industrial production index and international prices of food commodities. After that, studies the possible asymmetry and non-linearity of the coefficient. To determine the magnitude, econometric vector autoregressive models are implemented. The presence of asymmetries is examined through Local Projections (LP), following the methodology by Jordà (2005). It is concluded that the pass through effects on inflation are significant and not unitary. At the same time, it is observed that the transfer is positive in a depreciation and not significant when the variable is appreciated.
