Introduction: There are different learning styles and study methods that are specific to each student; these influence the way they acquire knowledge and could be linked to their academic results. The objective of this study was to analyze the link between learning styles, study methods and academic results. Methodology: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out from July to October 2023 on a cohort of students from the first semester of the Medical Doctor degree, who studied the curricular unit “Introducción a la Biología Celular y Molecular” at “Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de la República”. An electronic survey was used to know the study methods, use and perception of tools, attendance at workshops along with the Kolb Learning Styles test. Data collection was carried out virtually with the SurveyMonkey program, using SPSS software in the analysis of the data obtained. Results: From the learning styles test, two predominant styles were revealed, convergent (52.6%) and assimilating (30.6%). The rest of the styles were between 3% to 7% of the sample. Regarding the study methods, it was not possible to draw statistically significant conclusions. Regarding the use of tools, it stands out that the most used were self-assessments (20%) and the least used were textbooks (6.8%). Regarding the perception of usefulness, the self-evaluations (64.6%) and case studies (52.2%) were perceived as very useful and, on the other hand, among those not at all useful were the forum (27.8%), followed by reading material (5.7%). Students that took part in more than 50% of the workshops were 5.5 times more likely to approve the curricular unit. Conclusions: The research analyzes learning styles, the use of different tools, the association of results and attendance and weekly extracurricular study, aiming to be a tool that allows contributing to future research and the design of teaching plans.
