Se aborda el estudio de las características de la producción científica de los docentes-investigadores de la Facultad de Medicina (Universidad de la República), a través del análisis de los artículos de su autoría publicados en revistas indexados en la base WoS, (Web of Science) en el período 2012-2019. Se plantea determinar cuáles son las dinámicas de comunicación científica seguidas por los investigadores del área biomédica, al momento de difundir el resultado de sus investigaciones. Identificando los patrones adoptados en relación a la colaboración científica, el liderazgo de la Facultad de Medicina en las investigaciones científicas en las cuales participa, identificar el impacto de la producción científica analizada, así como también, las fuentes de financiamiento utilizadas. La investigación tiene un componente metodológico fuertemente cuantitativo, basándose en indicadores bibliométricos. Si bien, dentro del sistema de evaluación científica, el empleo de métodos cuantitativos, es uno de los elementos más controversiales. En especial, el uso de las citas recibidas como sinónimo de calidad de los artículos y por extensión de los autores. Así como también es cuestionado, el uso aislado del indicador de productividad. Siendo particularmente, criticadas las bases comerciales, WoS y Scopus, en relación a su cobertura y posibles sesgos. A favor de estos métodos, se argumenta, que constituye un instrumento que brinda una estandarización que permite la comparación. Si bien se parte de una herramienta, que está profundamente identificada como representación de la corriente principal de la ciencia, se sostiene al respecto una postura crítica, orientada desde el paradigma de la “ciencia en la periferia”. En relación a la colaboración a nivel de países, se pudieron identificar los principales socios y regiones geográficas con los que interactúa la Facultad de Medicina. Siendo importante destacar, que cerca de la mitad (46,4%) de la investigación, es realizada solo en colaboración local o regional. En lo relativo al comportamiento, de qué países lideran la investigación producida por la comunidad científica de Facultad de Medicina, se observa un importante liderazgo de Uruguay con un 55% del total del corpus y específicamente de FM, del 35,4%. Respecto al financiamiento se observa, que un 20,2% de los trabajos poseen financiamiento sólo nacional. Tomando en cuenta el tipo de financiamiento, una amplia mayoría de la producción, recibe fondos públicos, ya sean nacionales o internacionales

The study addresses the characteristics of the scientific production of the teaching researchers of the Faculty of Medicine (Universidad de la República), through the analysis of the articles of their authorship published in peer-reviewed journals indexed in the WoS database, in the period 2012-2019. It is proposed to determine what are the dynamics of scientific communication followed by researchers in the biomedical area, when disseminating the results of their research. Identifying the patterns adopted in relation to scientific collaboration, the leadership of the Faculty of Medicine in the scientific research in which it participates, identifying the impact of the scientific production analyzed, as well as the sources of financing used. The research has a strongly quantitative methodological component, based on bibliometric indicators. Although, within the scientific evaluation system, the use of quantitative methods is one of the most controversial elements. In particular, the use of citations received as a synonym for the quality of the articles and by extension of the authors. As well as the isolated use of the productivity indicator is questioned. Commercial databases, WoS and Scopus, are particularly criticized in relation to their coverage and possible biases. In favor of these methods, it is argued that they constitute an instrument that provides a standardization that allows comparison. Although we start from a tool that is deeply identified as a representation of the mainstream of science, we maintain a critical stance in this regard, oriented from the paradigm of “science on the periphery”. In relation to collaboration at the country level, the main partners and geographic regions with which the Faculty of Medicine interacts were identified. Regarding the behavior of which countries lead the research produced by the FM scientific community, Uruguay is seen to be the leader with 55% of the total corpus. Regarding financing, it is observed that 20.2% of the works have only national financing. Taking into account the type of financing, a large majority of the production receives public funds, whether national or international.
