The concept of mental toughness was proposed by Cattell et al. However, there is currently no consensus regarding its definition and measurement, which is why there are different theoretical frameworks, as well as measurement instruments. The Sport Mental Toughness Questionnaire (SMTQ) developed by Sheard et al. (2009) is one of the most widely used internationally and is composed of the following dimensions: Confidence, Steadiness and Control. The present research aimed to study the relationship between FM and physical activity in an Uruguayan sample. The sample consisted of 1119 people, of whom 81.3% were women, 18.1% men and 0.6% others, with an average age of 31 years, ranging from 15 to 73 years. From the results obtained with respect to internal consistency, in global terms the SMTQ (α = .80) presented high internal consistency as did the SCS-Uy (α = .80), the SMTS-Uy (α = .87) and the DFS (α = .88). As for the correlations, it could be observed that age presented a positive correlation with all the dimensions studied with the exception of Neuroticism (BFI-2S), Future Anxiety (DFS) and Sensation Seeking (BSSS-8). And, in turn, FM has a positive correlation with all dimensions except Future Anxiety and Neuroticism with which it has a negative correlation. Those who engage in physical activity have a higher mean FM than those who do not. The means with the most noticeable differences are those referring to FM, the Challenge dimension (MRunning = 19.83, SD = 3.12, MOtraAct = 18.74, SD = 3.33, MNinguna = 17.60, SD = 3.50, η² = . 038), as well as the SMTS-Uy dimension (MRunning = 61.32, SD = 9.20, MOtraAct = 57.11, SD = 8.90 , MNinguna = 53.22, SD = 9.50, η² = .064). It was also observed that men had a higher mean (M=58.24, SD=9.86) than women (M=55.28, SD=9.27). As for the effect size, it presents a Cohen's d of .06, so the effect size is small.
