Aortic valve replacement by Bjork - Shiley prosthesis.: preliminary report after one year's use in Uruguay
Reemplazo valvular aórtico con prótesis de Bjork- Shiley: comunicación preliminar luego del primer año de uso en nuestro país
Resumen:
A review of results obtained in the Heart Surgery Department of our University Hospital ( Hospital de Clínicas) with aortic valve replacement by Bjork - Shiley prosthesis indicates that out of 14 patients operated in the period September 76 - October 77, ten had aortic stenosis ( acquired in 9 cases, congenital in 1), one suffered frim aortic insufficiency and threefrom a double Jesion. There were 2 deaths: one intraoperatory and the other in the immediate post - operatory. A third patient died suddenly 6 months after operation. Complicationsconsisted in one hemolytic anemia and on· e_ prosthesis disfunction. Clínica! and radiologic improvement was _good in the remaining ten patients. Bjirk - Shiley's prosthesis presents advantages with respect to similar appliances.
El autor presenta los resultados obtenidos en el Departamento de Cirugía Cardíaca del Hospital de Clínicas con el reemplazo valvular aórtico con prótes,is de Bjork - Shiley. Fueron operados 14 pacientes en el peiíodo setiembre/76 a octubre/77. Diez tenían una estenosis aórtica (9 adquirida y 1 congénita), 1 insuficiencia aórtica y 3 una doble lesión.Hubieron 2 muertes, una intraoperatoria y la otra en el postoperatorio inmediato. Un tercer pacíente hizo una muerte brusca a los 6 meses de operado. Las compicaciones consistieron en una ;,memia hemolítica y una disfunción de la prótesis. La me,ioria clínica y l'adiológica fue buena en los liez enfermos restantes. Se !estacan ts, ventajas de la protesis deBjork - Shiley con respecto a sus similares.
