Esophagea/ cancer has high incidence in Uruguayand is general/y detected when it has reached anadvanced stage of the disease. This latter fact determinesthat surgica/ treatment be undertaken inthe majority of cases mere/y far palliative purposes.May are the techniques proposed to this effect.This paper describes the lvor Lewis procedure appliedin the city of Florida (Uruguay), over a 32 yearperiod.lt describes a first series of 43 patients operatedover the period 1970-1986, in which morbidityamounted to 60%, mortality was 11. 62% and overa/!surviva/ was 20. 2 months.
El cáncer de esófago se caracteriza en nuestropaís por su alta incidencia y presentarse en estadiosavanzados de la enfermedad. Este último hechodetermina que el tratamiento quirúrgico seemprenda en la mayor parte de ellos con un criteriopaliativo.Para ello, son diversas las técnicas propuestas.En el presente trabajo se comunica la experienciacon el procedimiento de lvor Lewis llevado a caboen la ciudad de Florida en un período de 32 años.La misma se compone de una primera serie de 43pacientes operados en el período 1970-1986, en lacual la morbilidad fue de 60%, la mortalidad de11, 62% y la sobre vida global de 20, 2 meses
