On the occasion of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the foundation of the Surgical Society, the subject "acute pancreatitis" is being revisid. The different chapters are summarized. Insistence is laid on the frequency in its ethiology of bilio-pancreatic lithiasicpathology. Stress is laid on physiopathology and enzimatic phenomena, as represented by laboratory work. Present medical and surgical treatment is outlined.

Con motivo del cincuentenario de la fundación de la Sociedad de Cirugía se rememora el tema pancreatitis aguda. En forma sintética se trazan los distintos capítulos. Se insiste en la frecuencia de la patología litiásica biliopancreática con respecto a la etiología. Se hace énfasis en la fisiopatología y fenómenos enzimáticos que tienen su expresión en la clínica y laboratorio.Se dan los lineamientos actuales del tratamiento médico quirúrgico.
