Spontaneous pneumoperitoneum by ruptured pyogenic liver abscess

Neirotti, Rubens

Resumen:

The authors present two exceptional cases ofpneumoperitoneum secondary to the ruptureof gas-producing hepatic pyogenic abscesses. Both were diagnosed as acute abdomen casesdue to hollow viscus perforation based onradiological evidence of air at subphrenic leve/(pneumoperitoneum). In two cases urgentlaparotomy showed, contrary to what wasexpected, hollow viscus indemnity and ruptureof hepatic pyogenic abscess associated todiffuse peritonitis. According to ourknowledge, pneumoperitoneum secondary tothe rupture of gas-producing hepatic pyogenicabscess is extreme/y rare
