Resumen:
Sumario:The seismic response of a structure depends on its characteristics and the behavior of the surrounding soil. Determining the vibration periods and their modes is crucial for understanding and predicting the response to external loads. Often, these periods are estimated using theoretical formulas, which may not accurately reflect reality. In this study, measurements of microvibrations were used with seismographs to analyze a university building in Arequipa, Peru. Measurements were taken at 22 locations within the structure and one in the ground. The data were processed to eliminate noise and converted into frequency spectra. The fundamental vibration period was obtained, along with an approximation of its modes, and details regarding the resonance frequencies of the soil, thicknesses of strata beneath the structure, and S-wave velocities in the subsurface. This precise evaluation, not solely reliant on theoretical calculations, is crucial for ensuring compliance with design standards. Furthermore, this non-intrusive approach significantly reduces the time and costs associated with obtaining essential geotechnical data.
