Resumen:
Sumario:This paper aims to present the situation of foreign persons deprived of liberty (PPLE, per its acronum in Spanish) in Uruguayan prisons through their sociodemographic (national origin, age, gender, educational level) profiles, employment, religious (beliefs and practices) and criminal profiles. To achieve this, we use a mixed methodological approach. The results show a lower numerical presence of PPLE compared to the general population in which the number of women follows the gender gap guidelines along with a high degree of overcrowding, little access to education and work, differential access to religious practices and a predominance of drug-related crimes.
