Sumario: | When the Real Academia Española founded the festivals to honor Cervantes in 1861, Spain witnessed a movement that intended to recuperate and recognize the value of the writer, and that will later spread to the rest of the world. This movement gives rise to a series of initiatives that aim to both praise and commemorate both Cervantes and Don Quixote. By means of several celebrations and publications, Chile participated in this movement from 1878, when Aniversario CCLXII de la muerte de Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra was published by his Chilean admirers, to 1916, when El libro de los Juegos Florales cervantistas first appeared. This is how between 1870 and 1916 the Chilean Cervantine review develops, and involves not only the merely popular, but also the academic reflection on Cervantes and his work. |
