Sumario: | In digital ecosystems, the relationship between human beings and time becomes simultaneously ethereal and saturated. Therefore, the processes of configuration and consolidation of individual and collective memory, of which rituals have traditionally been modes of standardization and codification, are currently reconverted and recodified: they mutate into other modes of production that pass –necessarily– through publication. At this point and in the current context of COVID-19 as an accelerator of memory datafication, it is worth asking about the nature of memory as a digital text, which seems to postulate that to be is to be seen: what is not published does not exist. Thus, it is worth questioning whether what is published is a memory as such, or whether it is an allusion to a memory that is activated (or exists only) through publication. From this approach, in this paper we propose to review how in digital environments, memories become longing and posture, and, therefore, how the (re)construction of (new) rituals is presented from there. To do so, we turn to the particular review of the rituals associated with death, based on the personal memories that triggered in the authors’ the death of Sergio Roncallo-Dow, professor, researcher and outstanding editor in the field of communication studies. |
