Resumen:
Sumario:The preliminary study in nature aims to describe the levels of post-traumatic stress symptoms and subjective stress in a sample of 149 college students from Copiapó, Chile. A cross-comparative associate strategy with natural groups was used. A brief sociodemographic survey and two instruments were applied: Severity Scale Symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Impact Event Scale Revised (EIE-R). Outof the total sample, reslts show that 2% have symptoms of post-traumatic stress; 85% have symptoms of medium impact intensity to the event and 13.4% have severe symptoms of subjective stress. Signifi cant diff erences were found in the scores of the scales depending on the varying degree of emotional impact: PTSD, F(4, 144) = 17.81, p < .001 and IES-R, F(4, 144) = 17.96; p < .001; and grade of material loss: PTSD, F(5.143) = 3.20, p < .01 and IES-R, F(5.143) = 3.26; p < .01. No diff erences in scores were found according to gender. These results suggest low prevalence of PTSD.
