Resumen:
Sumario:The aim of this paper is to study the possible differential item functioning (DIF) on the Test of Reading Efficiency (TECLE). Mantel-Haenszelt (MH) analyses were performed for DIF detection purposes, to test whether the TECLE items performed differentially by gender-based group. The sample (n=1159) was composed by 9 to 12 year old elementary school students (50,5 % males, 49,5 % females). Analyses yielded DIF on 6,25% of items. Although the literature suggests there were differential reading efficacy skills among male and female participants in 4 out of 64 items of the measure reported on here, gender-based standardization doesn’t appear to be needed. We should consider the possibility of continue studying this subject by expert judges who would contribute to acquire further knowledge on DIF.
