dc.description.en-US.fl_txt_mv The aim of this article is to highlight the critical, divulgative and academic studies dedicated to the work of Argentinian filmmaker Jorge Prelorán, from the sixties to the present, to analyze its relevance in the context of ethnographic cinema, as well as the particularities of his approach and representation of popular subjects. From the review of these studies, and from the analysis that has been made on Prelorán’s filmography, some assertions that place him as a "hard to classify" filmmaker or a "solitary voice" (Mahieu, 1974) are questioned. Although these perceptions were common in the cinema studies made in Argentina, the work of Prelorán —attached to the stream of ethnographic cinema— has been widely studied and recognized abroad.
dc.description.es-ES.fl_txt_mv El objetivo de este artículo es relevar los estudios críticos, de divulgación y académicos dedicados a la obra del cineasta argentino Jorge Prelorán, desde los sesenta hasta la actualidad, para analizar la relevancia de su obra en el contexto del cine etnográfico, así como las particularidades de su aproximación y representación de los sujetos populares. A partir de la revisión de dichos estudios, y del análisis que se ha realizado sobre su filmografía, se ponen en cuestión algunas afirmaciones que lo sitúan como un realizador "difícilmente clasificable" o como una “voz solitaria” (Mahieu, 1974). Si bien estas percepciones fueron comunes en los estudios sobre cine realizados en Argentina, en el exterior la obra de Prelorán —adscrita a la corriente del cine etnográfico— ha sido ampliamente estudiada y reconocida.
