Sumario: | In this article, trajectories of two fictional characters are reconstructed from their beginnings to their arrival at cinema: Avivato and El Gordo Villanueva. Both had their origins in magazines, but their allure for audiences was such, that they were brought to broadcasting and to the big screen. Although they are not the unique graphic characters that crossed this passage, interest in them lies in that they feature a characteristic type: the chanta. The two of them share certain idiosyncrasy and mode of behavior representative of an urban popular classes fraction in Argentina. Reading of these cases is conducted from cultural history and allows to observe how projection of a fictional character was articulated in its transmedial configuration. Finally, textual and situated analysis of both films unfolds some continuities and transformations produced between 1949 and 1964 within the Argentine cultural industry. |
