| Sumario: | This article examines the professional routines and the training and skills related to fact-checking among journalists working in the Spanish press. A nationwide online survey was conducted between May and June 2023 (n = 195). The findings indicate a growing amount of time devoted to verification in recent years, although it rarely exceeds thirty minutes per piece. Certain news areas—such as politics and economics—pose greater challenges. The study also reveals a limited use of specialized verification technologies and notable training gaps, particularly among more experienced journalists. Verification remains largely an individual practice, further shaped by structural and cultural factors. The study highlights the pressing need to strengthen both academic and professional training in digital verification, and to foster an organizational culture that supports this essential journalistic function in an age of disinformation. |
