Resumen:
Sumario:Abstract. Almost one third of Uruguayan youngsters do not complete Ciclo Básico (2008). Only four out of ten young people from lower socioeconomic level complete this level, but nine out of ten young people from an upper level do complete it. Studies carried out in our country account for the variety of factors that make this gap of educational achievements worse. But very few approach the problem of educational drop out as a process. This study contributes in this area, focusing on Ciclo Básico and on lower socioeconomic level. Risk and protection configurations conducive to different educational paths are herein identified. The study identifies not only early-drop-out paths but also successful and at-risk paths.
