| Sumario: | The recent evolution of the screenwriter into a producer within the revitalized Spanish television landscape still lacks widely agreed-upon criteria for its academic definition and boundaries. This article introduces a table outlining the task indicators for a producer, serving as a prospective methodological tool for analyzing and refining the definition of a showrunner. To construct this table, a methodology was employed that combines a review of academic literature with in-depth interviews with 9 screenwriters and/or executive producers of 23 series released between 1998 and 2021. The application of this table in the Spanish production context has revealed that the Spanish showrunner does not fulfill all the functions outlined in the tool. |
