Resumen:

The incorporation of several hundred megawatts of wind generation will require modifications both of regulations and the operating procedures of the Uruguayan electrical system. It becomes necessary, therefore, to develop studies which allow understanding the behaviour of the electrical system once that generation is present. This paper aims to deepen and assist in the analysis of one of the key aspects for the incorporation of wind generation, its response to a voltage dip and how it affects the operation of the electrical system. To do so, a number of analysis methodologies were developed, which allow to evaluate both the behaviour of the electrical system as a whole, and the individual behaviour of each of the nodes where wind generation is planned to be connected, upon the occurrence of short circuits in the transmission network. In particular, an analysis methodology based on the vulnerability areas study has been developed and implemented. From its application on the Uruguayan electrical transmission system it is possible to determine, for example, the maximum number of wind farms expected disconnections due to a voltage dip over a year, as well as other statistical information of great interest. It is worth mentioning that although the Uruguayan electrical system has been taken as the application case for these study methodologies, they are applicable to any electrical system.
