Actualmente asistimos a un aumento significativo de la población mundial diagnosticada dentro del Espectro Autista. Esto es considerado una problemática “nueva” debido a que los criterios diagnósticos se han ido modificando recientemente. La producción científica al respecto se encuentra enfocada casi exclusivamente en el autismo infantil, esto se debe a la importancia que tiene la detección temprana del mismo para poder brindar los apoyos específicos necesarios en cada etapa de la vida. Este trabajo intenta fomentar la sensibilización sobre este tema para facilitar el diagnóstico en adultos, el acceso a los recursos requeridos en dicho momento de la vida y la posibilidad de pensar y proyectar su vejez. Dados los avances respecto al pronóstico del TEA luego del diagnóstico, así como a nivel de la inclusión de las personas con autismo, es posible acceder a investigaciones recientes sobre la adultez de las mismas. Sin embargo, el envejecimiento es aún asunto de estudio reciente y escaso. Se realiza una revisión bibliográfica y posterior discusión que intenta lograr un acercamiento respecto a las condiciones en que se da el envejecimiento en personas con TEA, problematizando también el rol de los cuidadores principales de personas autistas ante la posibilidad de un envejecimiento conjunto. Se concluye que, ante las innumerables interrogantes existentes, la producción científica no acompaña esta diversidad. La falta de estudios y recursos respecto a este tema dificultan su abordaje, aún así, se sugiere utilizar estrategias que han demostrado ser útiles para el desarrollo de estas personas y comenzar a pensar.

We are currently witnessing a significant increase in the global population diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This is considered a "new" problem due to the fact that the diagnostic criteria have recently been modified. The scientific production on this subject is almost exclusively focused on infantile autism, this is due to the importance of its early detection in order to be able to provide the necessary specific supports at each stage of life. 5 This thesis aims to raise awareness on this topic in order to facilitate the diagnosis in adults, the access to the necessary resources at that moment of life and the possibility of thinking and projecting their old age. Given the advances regarding the prognosis of ASD after diagnosis, as well as at the level of inclusion of people with autism, it is possible to access recent research on their adulthood. However, ageing remains a recent and scarce topic of study. A literature review and subsequent discussion is carried out in an attempt to achieve an approach to the conditions in which ageing occurs in people with ASD, also problematizing the role of the main carers of autistic people in the face of the possibility of joint ageing. It is concluded that, in the context of the innumerable existing uncertainties, the scientific production is not up to this diversity. The lack of studies and resources on this subject make it difficult to approach it, but it is suggested to use strategies that have proven to be useful for the development of these people and to start thinking about.
