El trabajo recapitula los principales acontecimientos que gravitaron en la fragmentación de la Gobernación de Cuyo como resultado del desplome del gobierno general, la desarticulación del esquema de poder sanmartiniano y la fractura de divisiones del Éjército de los Andes a raíz de restricciones materiales, conflictos entre la oficialidad y los cuadros intermedios del batallón de Cazadores de los Andes y las controversias suscitadas en torno a la Constitución de 1819 y las tratativas monárquicas que afloraron en la coyuntura. En particular, interesa considerar los argumentos y prácticas políticas ensayadas para refundar el poder local, las reformas administrativas y militares implementadas para tramitar el orden político y social en el territorio y las iniciativas encaradas por las elites locales para refundar la antigua unidad mediante tratados interprovinciales o congresos generales. El tratamiento conectado de tales dimensiones permitirá precisar aspectos indicativos del debate académico en torno a un tema clásico de la historiografía argentina y rioplatense en la que se inscribe la obra del profesor José Carlos Chiaramonte: la cuestión de la(s) soberanía(s), sus variaciones semánticas en los espacios provinciales e interprovinciales y el peso de la experiencia de las Provincias Unidas ya disueltas en el repertorio de proyectos institucionales orientados a soldar el gobierno representativo republicano y federal en rechazo a la fórmula monárquica constitucional.

This paper recapitulates the main events that influenced the fragmentation of the Governorate of Cuyo as a result of the collapse of the general government, the disarticulation of the San Martin power scheme and the fracture of divisions of the Andes Army due to material restrictions, conflicts between the officers and the intermediate cadres of the battalion of Cazadores de los Andes and the controversies that arose around the constitution of 1819 and the monarchic negotiations that emerged at the time. Itis interesting to consider the arguments and political practices tried to re-establish local power, the administrative and military reforms implemented in order to manage the political and social order in the territory and the initiatives undertaken by the local elites to re-establish the old unit by means of interprovincial treaties or general congresses. The treatment connected to such dimensions will allow us to specify indicative aspects of the academic debate around a classic theme of Argentine and rioplatense historiography in which the contribution of professor José Carlos Chiaramonte is inscribed: the question of sovereignty(ies), its semantic variations in the provincial and interprovincial spaces and the relevance of the experience of the United Provinces already dissolved in the repertoire of institutional projects aimed at welding the republican and federal representative government in rejection of the constitutional monarchic formula.
