In this thesis, the generation of steam using concentrated solar thermal technology is addressed, with the aim of supplementing the traditional sources used by the Uruguayan industry, concluding with the modeling of a real case. To this end, a study on the development of Solar Heat for Industrial Processes (SHIP) systems worldwide and in Uruguay is conducted, with the latter still being nonexistent at the time of writing this work. A bibliographic investigation was carried out on the state of the art of solar thermal collectors, starting from the simplest and most well-known in Uruguay, such as flat plate and heat pipes, to concentrating ones, both with and without tracking, Compound Parabolic Collectors (CPC), Parabolic Trough Collectors (PTC), Linear Fresnel, and dish collectors, determining the most appropriate temperature ranges for their operation. An analysis of industrial consumption in Uruguay was also carried out, focusing efforts on those sectors where heat is used in the processes. Particular attention was given to selecting sectors where the use of fossil fuels is still relevant, due to their high cost and the emission of greenhouse gases associated with their use. By linking the state of the art with the sectors of interest in the Uruguayan industry, it is concluded that to generate solar steam under the necessary conditions, concentrating collectors must be used. The Parabolic Trough Collector (PTC) technology was chosen, but other technologies cannot be ruled out as costs are not evaluated. The result of this thesis ends with the development of a dynamic model in TRNSYS for solar steam generation, which links the hourly solar resource of Uruguay through the typical meteorological year, the solar concentration technology with storage, and the hourly steam demand curves of a Uruguayan industry in the meat processing sector. The advantage of this model is that it allows the evaluation of the performance of a SHIP system (any kind) against a real steam demand (any kind), with components of different characteristics, and determines if there are synchronization issues between the demand and the available and/or stored resource that could affect the system's performance.
