Women traffickers : analysis on drugs trafficking involving women in the municipality of Mossoró, Brazil

The research verifies the role of women in the crime of drug trafficking in the municipality of Mossoró, from 2020 to 2022, with the Narcotics Police Station, denarc/rn, as well as explores judicial decisions and practices of the local criminal system. The study presents information contained in police investigations and procedural records, covering the phases of the criminal justice system. As the National Penitentiary Department points out, in 2017 the drug trade was the main responsible for female incarceration in Brazil. In Mossoró, according to data collected from denarc/rn, during the pandemic period, 19% of police investigations dealt with drug trafficking with female perpetrators. The average number of apprehensions for drug trafficking involving women in the municipality was 23 from 2020 to 2021. The study allows the construction of a social profile of these women, consolidating their participation in a crime whose authors are primarily men.
