Objetivo: Evaluar el uso de la ‘Clasificación Internacional del Funcionamiento, Discapacidad y Salud’ (CIF) para niños y jóvenes con Parálisis Cerebral (PC), describiendo el perfil de funcionamiento y los beneficios y dificultades resultantes de su implementación en Uruguay. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo de corte transversal donde los participantes consistieron en niños y jóvenes de 0 a 18 años con PC atendidos en el ‘Centro de Rehabilitación Infantil Teletón – Uruguay’, sus cuidadores y el personal de salud que llevó a cabo su evaluación con la CIF. Se analizó una base de datos generada por la Teletón donde se constató el perfil de funcionamiento y los beneficios y dificultades fueron valorados mediante encuestas dirigidas a los cuidadores y al equipo de salud. Resultados: Participaron 17 niños con PC que fueron agrupados en dos categorías acorde al nivel de GMFCS, nivel I a III (n = 6) y nivel IV a V (n = 11) con sus respectivos cuidadores, y 10 profesionales del equipo de salud. En el perfil de funcionamiento resultante de la aplicación de la CIF se observó en ambos grupos categorías con deficiencias completas, teniendo el grupo con GMFCS IV-V a mayor discapacidad. Hubo una respuesta predominantemente positiva en cuanto a los beneficios percibidos con la CIF, si bien se presentaron dificultades en grado moderado al implementarlo predominantemente por el tiempo que insume. Conclusión: Se logró evaluar la implementación de la CIF, identificando las mayores dificultades a la hora de implementarlo para así poder sortear las mismas. Se destaca que el modelo contiene herramientas útiles para crear perfiles de funcionamiento y discapacidad en niños con PC y planificar su adecuada rehabilitación, jerarquizando los aspectos que afectan en mayor medida la salud del niño.

Abstract: Aim: To assess the use of the ‘International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health’ (ICF) for children and young people with Cerebral Palsy (CP), describing the profile of functioning and the benefits and difficulties resulting from its implementation in Uruguay. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out where the participants consisted of children and young people from 0 to 18 years old with CP treated at ‘Centro de Rehabilitación Infantil Teletón – Uruguay’, their caregivers and the health personnel who carried out the evaluation with the ICF. A database generated by Teletón was analyzed where the functioning profile was obtained and the benefits and difficulties were assessed through surveys directed to the caregivers and the health team. Results: Participants included 17 children with CP who were grouped into two categories according to the GMFCS level, level I to III (n = 6) and level IV to V (n = 11), their respective caregivers and 10 health professionals. In the functioning profile resulting from the application of the ICF it was observed in both groups categories with complete deficiencies, tending the group with GMFCS IV-V to greater disability. There was a predominantly positive response regarding the perceived benefits of the ICF although there were found moderate difficulties in implementing it, predominantly because of the time it takes. Conclusion: It was possible to evaluate the implementation of the ICF, identifying the greatest difficulties when implementing it in order to overcome them. It is highlighted that the model contains useful tools to create profiles of functioning and disability in children with CP and to plan their adequate rehabilitation, prioritizing the aspects that affect in greater extent the health of the child.
