A diffraction correction to quantify shear wave attenuation in transverse isotropic tissues: preliminary results

Budelli, Eliana - Brum, Javier - Lema, Patricia - Negreira, Carlos

Resumen:

Shear wave attenuation should be corrected by diffraction effects induced by the shear wave source when estimating mechanical properties of tissue. In this work we address this problem to provide a full mechanical characterization of transverse isotropic tissue. To this end, experimental measurements were combined with numerical simulations. Simulation was conducted under the assumption of a purely elastic TIT. Under these conditions the SWA can be attributed completely to diffraction effects. Results of the simulation were used to correct experimental measurements. Further studies are needed to fully verify this approach. Applications in sports medicine and food industry are also envisaged.
