O presente artigo visa identificar características da Política de Assistência Social no Brasil demonstrando a tensão entre as diretrizes dos organismos multilaterais e as possibilidades de uma concepção ampliada de Proteção Social. Analisa as características dos serviços e programas dessa Política, utilizando a metodologia da pesquisa documental. Os resultados indicam que, apesar da Política de Assistência Social no Brasil expressar em seus documentos e normativas diretrizes destes organismos, concomitantemente, a execução dos serviços apresentam-se como possibilidades de ampliação da concepção de proteção social não contributiva, por meio de tensionamentos, principalmente, de agentes políticos, aqui em especial, o assistente social.

This article aims to identify characteristics of the Social Assistance Policy in Brazil, demonstrating the tension between the guidelines of multilateral organizations and the possibilities of an expanded conception of Social Protection. It analyzes the characteristics of the services and programs of this Policy, using the documentary research methodology. The results indicate that, although the Social Assistance Policy in Brazil expresses in its documents and normative guidelines of these organizations, at the same time, the execution of services presents itself as possibilities for expanding the concept of non-contributory social protection, through tensioning, mainly , of political agents, here in particular, the social worker.
