dc.description.en-US.fl_txt_mv Long before the concept of social networks was forever associated with Facebook and Twitter, J.C. Mitchell defined the social network as a specific system of bonds between a defined grup of people, which can be used to interpret the social behavior of those involved. The analysis of social networks identifies the causes and consequences of those relationship structures. The conceptual origins of the research on social networks can be traced to the sociological work published in the 20s, which studied the patterns of interaction and communication as keys to understanding social life.2 With the design of computer applications that allow to visually represent these patterns and the development of constructs such as social capital, there has been an explosion in the amount of social researchers who apply these analysis. In this interview for dixit, Professor Martin Gargiulo explains the importance of integrating the analysis of social networks to organizational studies on behavior, leadership, change and communication.
